Some tips on using Notefile
- If you have a note open, click the note count at the bottom to return to the list.
- If you make the window large enough, or click the Full Screen button, you can see your list of notes and edit the selected note at the same time.
- When you’re viewing your list of notes, move your mouse over a note and click the x button to delete it. A note will also be deleted if you remove all of its text.
- Notefile can appear in the Dock or the menu bar. Choose Preferences from the Notefile menu, or click the gear icon and change the “Show Notefile in” setting.
- If you like you can set up a keyboard shortcut that brings Notefile to the front, so you can open your notes quickly from any app. Choose Preferences from the Notefile menu, or click the gear icon and change the “Keyboard shortcut” setting. Try something like F13, or fn+F4.

Common Questions
If iCloud syncing isn’t working, make sure you have a working internet connection, and you may need to give iCloud some time to sync. We also recommend using the latest version of OS X and the latest version of Notefile. You can check for updates by choosing “Software Update…” from the Apple menu.
Make sure iCloud is enabled:
- Open System Preferences (you’ll find it in the Apple menu or your Utilities folder)
- Click “iCloud”
- Make sure you’re logged in to your iCloud account
- Make sure “Documents & Data” is checked off in the list
- Return to the Notefile app, open the Notefile menu, and choose “Preferences…”
- Click “Sync”
- Make sure it says “Syncing with iCloud”
Add a new note:
Sometimes if iCloud is being stubborn, simply adding a new note and then deleting it will trigger other changes to sync in.
Restart Notefile:
If nothing else is working, quitting and re-opening the app may help.
- Open the Notefile menu and choose “Quit Notefile” (In menu bar mode, you’ll find this option if you click on the settings icon.)
- Open Notefile again
We’ve found that these suggestions solve most iCloud problems. If it’s still not working, please let us know and we’ll do our best to help you. You may also want to try switching to Junecloud sync, as an alternative. Apple has been working hard to address issues with iCloud syncing and we’ll keep up with those changes as fast as we can.
Similar to other note taking options like Mail or Stickies, your notes are not stored encrypted. For this reason we don’t recommend storing sensitive information like passwords in Notefile.
If you choose to use Junecloud sync, your notes are sent over a secure (https) connection to protect your privacy. Your notes are stored encrypted on our server. Your Junecloud password is stored encrypted in your keychain, in the same way that other passwords are saved.
The widget will contact Junecloud.com occasionally to check for a new version. No information is sent apart from the standard information that’s sent when you visit any site (for example the browser name and version).
Please contact us and we’ll do our best to help you.
