Getting creative with transparent PNGs for Delivery Status

The old Delivery Status graphics system When I started the Delivery Status widget it didn’t support many services. I wanted each service to be visually distinct, so I created entirely separate graphics for each one. It was sensible at the time, but as I started adding more services it turned into a hassle. Each service was four separate graphics (left, middle, right, and logo) for each size (small and large) plus another for the Growl notification, making nine total. iLounge includes Delivery Status among the top 100 apps and games for the iPhone

This was a nice surprise today: iLounge, arguably the top site for iPod and iPhone reviews and news, released their 2009 iPod + iPhone Buyers’ Guide. It’s very flattering to be listed alongside other top apps like Twitteriffic and Facebook. I’d missed it previously, but they also published a review on their site a couple weeks ago, including… Read more »

Displaying a password or text entry prompt on the iPhone

Writing your own iPhone or iPod touch app, and wondering how to create an alert like this? Check out the sample code below. I needed to display a password prompt in Delivery Status touch and quickly found that there was no ideal way to do it. There are some unsupported methods, but the workaround below—adding a UITextField as a subview of the alert—is the proper method for a third party app, according to Apple. Aside from the basic technique of adding a UITextField as a subview, there… Read more »
