VoiceOver tips for iPhone developers

I’ve been working on improving VoiceOver support for Delivery Status touch 3.0. It was pretty simple for the most part, but there are a couple of things in particular that I struggled with. I couldn’t find much information about this elsewhere, so I thought I’d share. The first problem was adding accessibility labels to a UISegmentedControl. It should be automatic if you’re using text labels for the segments, but if you’re using images, there’s no obvious way to do it. After a lot of trial… Read more »

Apple Repairs and Your Admin Password

This weekend my new 13" MacBook Pro started making a noise so horrible that it woke up my fiancée. (It didn’t stir me the slightest, but not much does.) I made an appointment at the local Apple Store as soon as possible. I did some reading online and it sounded like most people were able to get… Read more »

Happy Birthday, App Store!

The iTunes App Store is one year old today. To celebrate the past year of awesome third-party apps for the iPhone and iPod touch, we’re offering Delivery Status touch for 99 cents, this weekend only. Of course the price will vary in other countries, but it’s on sale for the lowest price everywhere. We’re also very proud to be included in Apple’s “App Store Turns 1” graphic. In several countries, including the UK, Germany, Austria, and Norway, they’ve even included Delivery Status touch in… Read more »

Delivery Status and Push Notifications

We’ve been getting a lot of requests for Push Notifications in Delivery Status touch—so you can see when your package status updates even if Delivery Status is closed. This is something I’d love to have as well, but it’s complicated and it may take some time. In order to handle Push Notifications properly, all of your tracking information would need to be stored on our server. Our server would then use that information to check your status every hour or so. If it noticed a change, it would… Read more »
