Delivery Status beta: smart upgrades, DHL fix, and more
This beta is now closed. Thank you for your help!
New in this version:
- Added an installer that will intelligently decide whether to install normally or ask if you’d like to smart upgrade. A smart upgrade allows you to keep your open widgets with the click of a button.
- Fixed DHL (US) tracking, necessary after a change to their site.
- Amazon.co.jp orders will now display correctly in Leopard—A bug in WebKit is preventing the same fix from working in Tiger. I’m hoping that 10.4.11, or a separate Safari update, will solve this problem.
- The + button will now work more reliably—specifically if the widget is installed in the root Library/Widgets folder rather than the one in your home folder.
- New in beta 4: Installer improvements
- New in beta 4: Fixed a bug where text could disappear if an ampersand was entered in the item name
- New in beta 5: Additional installer improvements
- New in beta 6: Added support for DHL Germany international shipments (simply leave the zip code or PLZ field blank)
- New in beta 6: Fixed UPS Mail Innovations tracking, necessary after a change to their site
- New in beta 6: Improved tracking for certain DHL shipments
- New in beta 7: Even more improved tracking for certain DHL shipments
- New in beta 7: Improved handling of special characters in Growl notifications
- New in beta 8: Some small visual fixes for Leopard.
The installer works like this:
- If it’s your first time installing the widget, it’s just installed normally.
- If the widget is already installed, you’ll see the screen above.
- If you choose Smart Upgrade, the old version is moved to the trash, the new version is copied in place, Dashboard is restarted, and then Dashboard is activated. If you had a bunch of deliveries you were tracking, you should see them all open just like they were before!
- If you had the widget installed in the root Library/Widgets folder, then Smart Upgrade will detect that and upgrade it there. You’ll probably have to enter your admin password twice.
I think the whole thing works pretty seamlessly. What do you think? Let me know!

Hi,
when I send a DHL Paket from Germany to ‘somewhere’ else, I don’t have (and need) the PLZ (see ‘http://nolp.dhl.de/nextt-online-public/track.do’). Instead, I have to check ‘Auslandsendung’.
INCREDIBLE SOFTWARE!!!

hi . thanks for a great widget . one problem , however . authentication with amazon always fails . i’m assuming it’s because it’s using the wrong email address (i have several) , but i can see no way to tell it what address to use …

I just noticed a potential bug in beta 5: when checking the status of my Apple up-to-date copy of Leopard, it lists the status as "Shipped in October 26th". It should read "Shipped by October 26th".

ElGrowZone: If you have an example tracking number you would not mind sharing with me, please contact me and I will do my best to fix it!
bo: The email address field is in the bottom-left corner. As noted on the Delivery Status Help page this field changes depending on the company selected. You can see the text above the field change, so make sure to check it when you enter a new delivery. I’ll be redesigning the back of the widget in 4.0 and I hope to make this more clear.
sixbillships: Yeah, unfortunately Apple is displaying the information for Leopard pre-orders a bit differently than they do for anything else. Since it ships in four days I probably won’t be able to fix it in time to do any good. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Hi !
Great work on this widget , i love it !
Is there any chance the French Post can be included in all those transporters ?
Thanks
Mike Piontek
I’ll add them to my list! I can’t get to everything, but I do my best to add the most popular requests eventually.
